Stars in my Eyes

Scott and I went to the Toronto International Film Fest on the weekend for the first time and it was awesome. We saw seven great movies and basically lived off of popcorn and pop for 48 hours. I'll recap the movies later but first I have to blog about my celebrity sightings.

It all started at the premiere of Rescue Dawn where I got to see Christian Bale. After the movie the director Herzog and actors, Bale and Davies, got on stage for a Q and A. I took a couple of pictures but they didn't turn out that great.

However, on our way out of the theatre, we walked by the side exit where they happened to be walking to their cars. We did not know this kind of thing happened, however lots of other fans apparently do. It was crazy, kind of a mini red carpet in reverse. We got there just at the right time and I was so close to Bale that I could have leaned over and kissed him on the forehead - however I did manage to restrain myself - the will power I have is amazing.

Here is my awesome picture of Christain Bale ...

until some jackass put his video camera in my way. You can however see how he signed autographs with his silver pen.

This was going to be my awesome second picture of Christian Bale until...

a different jackass threw his batman picture up in front of his face. Notice however, Bale's beautiful head of hair :)

But here he is in all his glory - sigh.

Oh yeah that's the director and the other movie star (Jeremy Davies) behind him.

Finally, here is the famous celebrity "Thanks, I'd love to sign more autographs but I've got to go" move.

More film fest stuff to come.

School

Mitchell started school last week with a 15 minute interview and two 2 hour visits with smaller groups. Jim was over on the weekend and asked Mitchell what he would say if someone at school asked him his name - Mitchell said he would tell them it was Mitchell John Gerry Jingle Himer Schmidt - what a kid.

He is also still really focused on the school being a sports school - asking during his interview "who would be on his team". The night before he was nervous about school because he was afraid he wouldn't have any hits in baseball. And when asked about his first day, he said in a perturbed voice that "I didn't get to play any basketball." Have fun Mrs. C.!

Cats

On Sunday night, Mom called and said she and Bill were going to stop by, Bill had picked up his kitten and they wanted to show the boys. Apparently I didn't hear the "s" on kitten because I was certainly surprised when they showed up with a box of seven. They were the sweetest things. I'm not sure that all 7 survived the mauling that the two boys gave them, but I do know all 7 were returned, as we had a head count before they left. I would have loved to get a picture of all of the kittens but that was impossible since they wouldn't all stay in one place.

Derek's death grip in action!

Catching up

Haven't posted in a while as we've been very busy - back to school and all - so I'm going to back up to the weekend before school started. We went to Colasanti's with the kids on Sunday and had a lot of fun. Mitchell and Derek loved the animals and rides, and I got some good pics. Here are a couple.

Bluesfest ... not a snoozefest

Okay - lame title but I can live with it. Last weekend we had a table at Steven's Bluesfest. It was great! The bill was Lockewood, Superfly and Mel Brown and I thought Superfly was the best of them all (biases aside). The event had to be moved from the Civic Centre to the Kinsmen Auditorium due to the threat of rain, which was too bad, because as great as the night was I'm sure it would have been even better outside. Looking forward to next year!

Happy Birthday Mitchell

Mitchell is now four. This was a big birthday for him because now that he's four, he gets to go to his "sports" school.

I was sick on his actual birthday so he spent that day at Grandma and Grandpa's and had a twinkie with a candle in it for cake that day. For the family birthday party, Mitchell picked out this cake. I was sure he would go for dinosaurs or a movie character but he wanted the muddy truck, so that's what he got.

When asked if he felt bigger on his birthday Mitchell said yes, and that especially his mouth was bigger (you can say that again).
