Canada Day

For Canada Day we celebrated by trying to use up all the red fruit we picked on Monday. Next year if we go to experience strawberry picking, I think one basket picked by each of us will be plenty. After this morning's efforts, there are still berries left and I've also given two baskets away.

In the afternoon, with rain threatening, we went to the less than spectacular Canada Parade. Derek was supremely disappointed that he didn't get a flag to wave.

Day 2 - June 30

Today was a Tuesday and every other Tuesday my mom and various members of that side of the family go to my Grandma's to clean her house and then they have lunch. When we can make it we go for the lunch part. We almost didn't get to go today, since Grandma just got out of the hospital a week ago, but she decided she was feeling up for company. Today the big table overflowed into a boys table, a girls table, and a ladies plus one table.

In the afternoon Mitchell, Derek and I went to the library. The kids made spy masks in preparation for the library's summer theme. When they picked out books it was hard. Mitchell is a great reader (reading at a Grade 3 level) and he could start reading some chapter books. I imagine The Magic Treehouse, Encyclopedia Brown, etc. He picked out Bionicle and Pokeman books. Oh well, at least he's reading.
