Yellow Submarine

Derek has been providing lots of amusement for the daycare staff lately. Everyday we get a little write up about his activities. Yesterday his write up said that Carter wanted everyone to sing Happy Birthday and Derek said, "No, Yellow Submarine" and they were amazed because then he sang it perfectly. Today his note said, "Derek was very verbal today. I (Rachel) asked him what song he wanted to sing at circle time, and he said Yellow Submarine! HA HA HA So we did!"

I'm sure right now she's just enjoying the reprieve from him asking to sing the Thomas song all the time. I don't know what he has against the childhood standards like Row Row Your Boat or Baa Baa Black Sheep!

It probably won't be long before he's requesting to sing "Dirty Laundry" because Mitchell was singing "dirty deeds and they're done dirt cheap" over and over again this morning.

Playmates

The boys are getting along pretty good these days (despite how Derek looks in the picture). Sometimes they will play together on their own for up to half an hour. Most often Mitchell is the leader and Derek just copies his words and actions, but sometimes there is an actual dialogue and give and take of ideas.

Usurped

Today I was dropping Mitchell off at daycare when he said he was excited about school. I had to remind him that it wasn't a school day, and that he would be spending the day with Connie. He was pretty disappointed that he wasn't going to see Mrs. C, his JK teacher, saying, "But I love her,...even more than you." Ouch!!

Tick Tock goes the Holiday Clock

Two weeks of holidays seems to go by way too quickly. We've been pretty busy; playing broomball, going to London, having a family fun night, and New Year's dinner. In London we went to the Children's Museum and the kids loved it. I wouldn't say it was much of a learning experience for them, but a great indoor playground. The adult world in miniture is very amusing to small children. It was funny watching Mitchell fill drive through orders and Derek filling up the post office mailboxes. Two days left to pack with holiday fun.

Santa Claus Came to Town

The Christmas rush is over and we've all survived. We started Christmas Eve day with Scott's family and didn't stop until Boxing Day with my family. This year Mitchell wasn't as excited about underwear as last year, requesting that presents of clothes just be put on the floor. Derek was slightly traumatized watching the Polar Express (even though he seemed to love it at the Union Gas Kids Party) crying and running to "Turn it off!" It took Mitchell a while to recognize the marbles that Santa left for him and Derek was quick to finish off the piece of carrot that Rudolph left. Lunch with the Holling family was out at Uncle Bob's for a change and I actually got to sit and visit a bit at the Tye Christmas. We ended at Mom and Dad's Boxing Day morning after Derek finally woke up and I ate my fill of appetizers which were very yummy after 3 meals of turkey.
